La-D-Da - Merry Christmas (Edited)

Instantly recognisable I know, and I guess there are a lot of us stitchers out there that have done this pretty little Christmas ornie, but I do so love this one.

Edit: **I've been asked by some of you where the design is from - just to let you know its from 2005 edition of the JCS Christmas Ornament magazine.**

I have stitched it on 36ct white linen, using silk thread. The backing fabric is deep red slik moire and the trim is silk ribbon and silk roses.

I have been finishing a couple of other ornaments and also my knitting, I've made 2 pairs of socks and the most gorgeous bag, which I am just doing the final embellishment for, the socks and the bag are Christmas gifts, but I will show you them here first.
Hope that everyone is keeping warm and cosy, its really very cold, snowy and icy here in Cumbria, Harry doesn't like going out in it at all, so House training is much much slower than I wanted, but I can't let his little paws get too cold now can I!

He helped me put up the Decs yesterday - that was fun .... NOT!! LoL!!, I'll start sharing pics with you over the coming week, Have you got yours up yet??

Briar Rabbit

Very little stitching has been happening here this week, so my rotation has gone a little awry, but I am stitching my Quaker cherub by AMAP.

I have done some finishing though and this is one of them, this gorgeous Briar Rabbit is by La D Da, and I have stitched him on unknown count linen, (I think its 30ct) on an unknown colour, but I just loved it and thought it looked fine, he's stitched 1/1 using the recommended DMC, the backing fabric I have used for this is the same as the one you can see him lying on. I've used glass headed pins in a sagey green and mottled gold and dull brown cording which matched the alphabet stitching.

Thankyou for your encouragement re: my rotation I do appreciate it as I do each every comment and visit. ( Helen - you cheeky thing, I had to laugh when I saw your comment about the fox and rabbit and yes, I have promised Mark I will pick it up again soon(ish) LOL!!)Hope you all have a great weekend, I'm off to Fobbles again tomorrow, but this time its an open stitching day - anyone want to join us? 'Tis the gift

When my order arrived from Thread Bear the other week I just couldn't decide which of the La-De-Da charts I had ordered to start on first, but I decided I wanted to stitch 'Tis the Gift', I just loved the wee poem and the design as always from La-De-Da is both simple and elegant.

I've just finished it and so its hot off the ironing board after a quick press. I have stitched it on 32ct sand linen using GAST & WDW threads, mostly the design actuals, but I did change the pink outline of the flowers to a warmer richer colour than was suggested. This is another I think I will frame.

I hope that everyone has had a good weekend, we have!! It was my friend Gills birthday last Thursday and we all went out for a meal last night to a lovely little restaurant at Wasdale, here is a picture of us all after we had finished the meal.

Whose who?? I hear you ask, well the birthday girl is sat behind me at the back and her partner JB is opposite her, then its me and opposite is my Mark.
In front of me is my SIL Dawn (Marks sister) and opposite her is her husband Jim, and in the front is my friend Helen, with her husband John.

A little Romance

For Mark for Valentines Day, La De Da 'Autumn Heart', stitched on 40ct French Lace linen, using an assortment of silk threads in my stash, trimmed with cream cord and a heavy glass bead, hung with a satin ribbon.

There's No Place Like Home

I finished this up on Thursday its taken me 3 evenings and 1 day to stitch this gorgeous design by La D Da, I have stitched it 1/1 on 40ct R&R linen (Creme Brulee) using the recommended NPS thread - which was a dream to use. Its not cross stitched I used petit point stitch for it - that was due to inspiration from dear NatalieJo who had stitched La D Da 'Big Flower' 1/1 on 40ct.

I did use my Mag eyes later in the evening and my little light as my eyes got tired, but I think its worth all the effort, now to find a suitable frame for it and decide where to hang it! I can't tell you how pleased I am with it.

Thankyou to everyone who passed on the Birthday Greetings to mum, it was appreciated.

Thankyou too for your lovely visits and comments ..... again its very much appreciated.
Its a Fobbles stitch-in day tomorrow so guess where I will be all day!! Its Sail away stitching time too so I will take it with me I think, instead of the latest one I have started this afternoon when I finished work, which is another La D da.

Winter Heart

As always my final stitch or finish for the Year is for Mark, and this year is no exception. I have stitched and finished Winter Heart by La De Da on 35ct linen, using silk thread by Dinky Dyes, the thread colour is called Shiraz.

The backing fabric is a deep reddy plum colour (very similar to the thread), and I trimmed it with a shop bought ready made tassle that I had, which again is very similar to the thread colour. I was happy with the result and Mark loved it which is the main thing.

Miss Mary Mack.....

.... is no longer all dressed in black LOL!!, for my version she has become a little bit of the 'scarlet' woman!!
I was inspired to stitch this a couple of years ago ( though its taken me til now to do it), when Vero had encouraged us all to stitch her after she had done her as a brooch, ever since then after seeing at that time the lovely variations of MMM, I have so wanted to stitch her, so I decided as I was wearing a black dress for Christmas Day and it would look so right wearing it with a long necklace I finally stitched her and I must say I am delighted with my finish.

She's stitched on 40ct 1/1 and I used GAST currant for her then she has been inserted into a little pintin I found after ratching through my stash.


I really hope that you have had a wonderful Christmas time so far, I know I have and I have some other bits and stitching to show you, but not today, my coffee maker broke yesterday and I am now frantic as I have had no coffee, so I am off to Whitehaven to Argos to buy myself a replacement, I want the same machine again, but this time if I can I want a 'red' one - hmmmm there must be something about red for me at the minute.

Yesterday I had a great stitchy afternoon, or should I say chatting afternoon, Bev and I had planned a get- together at my home, we chatted more than we stitched LOL!! so we are going to have another this coming week and we are stitching this time (well, maybe LOL), its good to be able to do this as we are both off work, Bev and Edna open Fobbles again on the 5th an I go back to work on the 5th Janiary.

I would just like to add a big thankyou for your lovely e cards and emails and cards I have received for Christmas I have really appreciated them

More ornaments

This one just has to be my favourite one I have stitched this year, originally it was going to be for an exchange, but I loved it so much I changed my mind and have kept it for myself, I intend to do all the wee birds from the JCS ornie issues. The design is by La-D-Da.

Another box finish

Remember a couple of months ago, I finished La-D-Da - Peaceful ways and couldn't quite decide how to finish it, well I have put it into another box lid, I really love how this has turned out. I trimmed it with gold cord and added a dark gold tassel. I have lined the inside lid with a complimenting fabric, but forgot to take a pic of that.



I have been stitching and have done quite a few Christmas Ornies, but I haven't completed any finishing on them yet.

My Sunshine

I have really enjoyed stitching this - I do love La-D-Da designs, I stitched this 1/2 on 32ct Silkweaver solo that I had in my fabric drawer so cos its a solo I have no idea what the colour of it is. The threads are totally changed I used OWS - Midnight rain, DMC 111, Dragon Floss - Impulse, Dragon Floss - Riverside. I haven't quite decided yet how I will finish this one, probably into a cushion of some kind.

On a good note too, my Summer Exchange partner has posted to say she received hers yesterday, I have some pics to post of what I sent but I will put them up tomorrow.

Peaceful Ways

I just loved stitching this. Its called Peaceful ways by Lori Markovic (La-D-Da, I stitched it on 32ct Desert Sand linen and the only thread I substituted was WDW Scheneckly for Tarnished Gold (Only cos I didn't have tarnished gold) all other threads used are GAST, its stitched 1/2, and I love the mellow but delicate look it gives. I didn't stitch the edging or my initials and year as I want to place it in an oblong box lid.

Polly Wolly Doodle

Here is my Polly Wolly Doodle by Lori Markovic, I stitched this on 36ct white linen 1/1, so as you can imagine its quite tiny.
I hadn't any Neeldpoint Silk apart from Purple Iris, which the words are done with. So I substituted with Gloriana silk thread. I used Grecian Gold, Charcoal, Rosewood and GrannySmith Green, and the blue is Au Ver a Soi Navy. I've framed it in a tiny leather frame that I had in my frame box. This was my stitching project whilst we were on holiday. It was a lovely project to stitch and I enjoyed every minute of it. It measures approx 7cm x 6cm, I did think to make it into an ornie or a needlebook or even a pinkeeper, but because I found the frame I felt it looked at home in there.
